The Honorable xxx

Dear:

The strength of America lies partly in individuals such as you. You know full well the punishing nature of a presidential campaign. Nevertheless, you took it on. As a citizen, I wish to use this occasion to pay my deepest respects.

That being said, I am writing on behalf of The 80-20 Initiative (henceforth 80-20) to inquire about your views on Asian Pacific American (APA) concerns. A questionnaire is enclosed. I hope you will endorse our aspirations.

80-20 is a national political organization with an e-mail list of 650,000 APA families & individuals. It is nonpartisan & is dedicated to winning equal opportunity & justice for Asian Pacific Americans through a SWING bloc vote.

A book by 3 Syracuse U. professors, entitled “Click on Democracy,” rated 80-20 as one of nation's two most effective cyberspace political orgs. in the 2000 election. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0813340055/qid%3D1025198992/ref%3D%3Dsr%5F11%5F0%5F1/104-8613051-5694362

In the 2000 election, when we endorsed a presidential candidate for the very first time, we delivered 66/32 to our endorsed candidate nationally, and 70/28 in Calif. The above figures were reported by a nationwide survey partially sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) http://www.80-20initiative.net/NAA_Political_Survey.pdf . You may agree that a survey sponsored by the NSF is likely to be the most accurate. 80-20 was the only organization explicitly mentioned in the national survey. At that time, we only had 300,000 APA families and individuals on our email list.

In 2000, 7.4%. of the voters in California were APA. http://www.census.gov/population/socdemo/voting/p20-542/tab04a.pdf. In 2004, our % will easily top 8% in California, having 55 electoral votes.

Before ending, let's cast aside political considerations. Helping an immigrant underclass achieve equal opportunity in workplaces is the right thing to do. You will just be honoring your pledge of allegiance to the flag that ends with “ … with liberty and justice for all.” That is what our questionnaire is all about.

Sincerely,

S. B. Woo
President, The 80-20 Initiative, Lt. Governor of Delaware (1985-89)
